The US officials in Nepal are facing death threats. Well, almost…
The alleged threat
In a recent mass meeting, Maoist leader Prachanda said royalists are conspiring to murder some US officials and blame it on the Maoists. As vague as the allegation sounds, Prachanda didn’t bother to elaborate. This however has brought in furious as well as concerned remarks from the US embassy.
The embassy stated “If the Maoist leader has evidence to support his statement, then he should immediately share that information with the Embassy and with the appropriate police authorities.”
False accusations?
American Ambassador James Moriarity said if it were false, it would be “dangerous” and consequences would be “grave.”
Evidence
Prachanda says evidence is being collected to prove his statement.
Reactions
-The US embassy has told its concerns to the Prime Minister who’s promised to talk to Prachanda.
– Prachanda says the US officials are raising a question against him instead of being grateful.
This whole issue puts a lot of pressure on the Maoist leader to support his claim, which to me sounds blah at the moment – but well… if he’s giving us enough evidence, I’ll be eating my words.

Shocking and Sarcastic.
It’s difficult to trust the Maoists, at least for me. After all the peace talks in the past that led the country nowhere; after all the brutality of the home-grown war that has ripped off the country; and the continuation of “acts of Maoists-the terrorists: killings, robbery, fund raising,” has only put their credibility in question. On the other hand, the king’s credibility is almost nil. In a country where the tug-of-war between the political parties have never gone astray, this is yet another example of parties trying to smack each other and thus prove their superiority–in this case it’s the two major parties: the rising Maoists and the falling royalists.
The Maoists have allegations against the king. It’s now been days that they have accused the king, but where is the evidence? They’ve just said it, but they got to prove the fact.
From the king’s past actions it isn’t hard to say that he wouldn’t do it, and looking at the Maoists’ past activities it might just seem as another trick that they’re ready for.
It’s actually hard to trust anyone in this case. If the Maoists bring forth evidence to support the allegations, the monarchy’s fate would dilute to history for sure, and if not, it would be a time to question the Maoists again–What actually do they want?
